What- GFCI is an acronym for ground fault circuit interrupter.  A GFCI is a device that shuts off an electric circuit when it detects that current https://simple.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_current is flowing along an unintended path, possibly through water or through a person. It is used to reduce the risk of electric shock https://simple.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrocution.

Where-You will find GFCI Outlets in kitchens, bathrooms or anywhere a water source is located.  The GFCI can manually be reset by pushing the reset button located between the 2 plugs. There is also a test button that can be used to verify that the GFCI is working.  It is recommended to test GFCI Outlet at least once a month.When- If you lose power to all or part of your home it is a good idea to first check the breaker box as well as any GFCI Outlets.  Most of the time when power is lost to the bathroom or kitchen it is a result of a GFCI Outlet tripping.  If power is lost to the kitchen check  to see if you have any GFCI Outlets in the kitchen and be sure to check behind the fridge and under the sink.  If there is a common wall with the garage, be sure to check the garage as well for a GFCI Outlet.  If power is lost to the bathroom or any rooms with a common wall to the bathroom, make sure to check the bathroom for a GFCI Outlet.  Once you locate the GFCI Outlet press the reset button to see if power gets restored. If it does not it is recommended to call a licensed electrician to come out to troubleshoot the issue and make needed repairs. www.utopiamanagement.com
