Does your rental property still have furnishings or hardware that will remind your renters of their childhoods in the 1990’s?

As a High-End Management Company, we can tell you that older furnishings can make a rental property will lose you money that’s why it’s important that you get your rental property updated ASAP but you want to avoid these design trends at all costs.

Specialty Finishes or Specialty Hardware

One of the most iconic design trends from the 1980’s and 1990’s is gold fixtures. Every bathroom from that day seemed to have gold fixtures in them.

If you’re renovating a bathroom in your real estate property you should avoid using specialty finishes or hardware. Those trends can easily fall out of popularity in one year and this will only cost you money.

Custom Cabinetry

Although custom cabinetry may have had its use back in the day, you should avoid adding custom cabinetry at all costs and stick with adding cabinetry for traditional uses like towels/wash clothes in the bathroom, clothing, linens and other items that your tenant might have.

Graphic Tiling

You may love custom graphic tiling but is your future tenant going to love it or hate? The key to success with choosing tiling is to stick with a neutral tile that compliments the space without being overbearing.

Granite Counter-tops

Granite counter-tops were the in thing about 3 years ago but they are quickly becoming a thing of the past

Sadly, many landlords have invested thousands of dollars in granite counter-tops in recent years only to realize too late that this type of counter-top is no longer in favor with renters because they can be hard to maintain.

What’s the solution to the problem? Instead of going with granite counter-tops you should choose a counter-top that’s low maintenance instead.

For an alternative to granite counter-tops consider choosing butcher block, stainless steel or soapstone instead.
