Many vacationers and first time San Diego transfers, will choose to stay and live in the beach community of Pacific Beach. Located just South of Bird Rock/ La Jolla , Mission Beach, and Mission Bay to the south, five minutes east of Interstate 5 and falling into Pacific Ocean boardwalk, “P.B.,” as it is known as by local residents, is home to one of San Diego’s more developed nightlife scenes, with a great variety of bars, eateries, and clothing stores. While formerly largely populated by young people, surfers, and college students, because of rising property values and rental costs the population is gradually becoming older, more professional, and more affluent as reported by the San Diego Planning Department.

All the fun, sun and activities will having you craving for a delicious and unique local favorite! You should visit Fat Sal’s in Pacific Beach! Not only do they have a wide variety of traditional sandwiches such as the Irresistible Italiano or the Tenacious Turkey, they have a special menu of “FAT” sandwiches. My personal favorite is the “Fat Jerry”. This sandwich is loaded with cheesesteak, chicken fingers, bacon, mozzarella sticks, French fries and a fried egg all on a fresh hero roll. I like to mix up my selection every now and then and add jalapeno poppers to my sandwich and substitute the original hero for the garlic hero or go even larger with the “Big Fatty Fat” with the addition of a cheese burger and pastrami to the above “Fat Jerry”. If you can finish this enormous sandwich in 40 minutes or less while not caring about your beach suit body, this sandwich is free and you get to create your own unique fat sandwich. I have yet to take the challenge but I have seen one attempted before and honestly it is not for the faint of heart.
